Anticipated Games for 2011

What’s that?? Video Games are still in demand these days? Damn right they are! In fact, here is a list of games coming out (or already out as this is a little late in the year) that I’m highly anticipating. (After the digital break of course)Let’s start off by establishing that this list is not in any specific order, just as I remember or research the titles appropriately. Thanks VGReleases for making life a little easier on this side of things. [Due to mild restrictions, presently, only Wikipedia pages will be listed for Info. I will update this as I can.]

  • Little Big Planet 2 (Info - Trailer) It’s out! - I don’t have it yet, but I plan on investing in it soon! I adored the first game and they added a massive amount of content! When you can take a game such as this and replicate Wolfenstein 3D and give that power to the players… You’re in good shape.
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Info - Trailer) 11/1/11 - Oh. Em. Gee. I truly adore this game series. It’s the closest to a modern Indiana Jones but still a unique entry all on it’s own. It has the chases down, it has the action down, and it has enough puzzles that, so far, the series just plays smooth. This is probably my most anticipated title.
  • Dragon Age 2 (Info - Trailer & 2nd Trailer) 3/8/11 - I was a late bloomer in this series! I had not played it until the Ultimate Edition was pending. A friend of mine pretty much pointed out I’m not a gamer until I experience it. Feeling the challenge, I responded to my gamely duty to investigate! Amazing story. While BioWare is one of my favorite developers, I have yet to try the Mass Effect series either. This just solidified my purchase on my PC for ME1 & ME2. Maybe the DLC, depending on my mood. DA2 is a must for me.
  • Batman: Arkham City (Info - Trailer) Q3 - The first game was fantastic. The most fluid combat system that fit the superhero to the finest point. The original animated cast all returned for their roles! How can you lose?? Mix in a great story with talent and a great system and this is the kind of quality you get. For once, a superhero game that exceeds expectations! Highly looking forward to this sequel.
  • L.A. Noire (Info - Trailer) 3/17/2011 - Rockstar. You have my interest. This may be the first Rockstar title where you actually play a true protagonist. The concept is the 1930s detective scene. The animation on this game is just remarkable! Looking forward to another Grand Theft Auto that isn’t… Grand Theft Auto. [Red Dead Redemption was borderline, but it still stood on its own merit and had it’s own mechanics that worked very well.]
  • Portal 2 (Info - Trailer) 4/18/2011 - The first one warped my mind. Literally. It was a game that took what you thought you knew about puzzle games and just obliterated all thoughts! Now they’re making a sequel that no only includes a single player campaign, but also cooperative play. Or, for my roommate who doesn’t believe cooperative is a word in gamer speak, co-op. Bring it! [Ending Credits Song. It’s quite awesome, but you won’t have a clue if you don’t play through the first one.] … Now I want cake. If only it wasn’t a lie.
  • inFamous 2 (Info - Trailer) UNKNOWN 2011 - I really enjoyed the first game. I didn’t ever play through it the second time to get all the trophies because I genuinely felt bad and couldn’t play the bad guy role. Go figure. However! The dynamics involved in the game were very enjoyable. I liked the powers, I liked the story of how it became, and I liked how it was left open for possibilities. Great world. Looking forward to where it goes from here. Odd note: Originally they redesigned the hero from the first game, and enough fans complained that they changed him back to a closer look to the original. Power to the Players, indeed!
  • Gears of War 3 (Info - Trailer) Sept. 2011 - Do I really need to explain this one? It’s probably the 2nd strongest XBox 360 title on the market to date. Gears of War 3 needs to kick up the story mode to make the single player campaign playable, for me anyway. I highly enjoy the co-op Horde Mode and probably have the most hours sunk into that game mode. But the story was pulling teeth for me. Dom needs to be less emo/raging testosterone and more “STFU I’m shooting shit!” We will have to see if they shift the focus away to the rest of the team for the 3rd act.

There, that should name a few. There are a few who, by other peoples’ standards, should be on the list like Skyrim, Marvel VS Capcom 3, Crysis 2, and maybe even Bulletstorm, but they made honorable mentions for this list.

Enough about me, what about you? What game(s) are you most eager for?
